A lot of coaches were terrible this past week, in no particular order:
Chan Gailey (GT) - laying an egg at home on Thursday night
Charlie Wies (ND) - losing to Navy (who lost to 1-AA Delaware last week) from cfn.scout.com So there you have it, folks: Charlie Weis, in one astonishingly dumb move connected to a late-game field goal situation, wound up costing his team a game while simultaneously kicking (pun very much intended) a young man to the curb. You'll have to look long and hard to find decisions worse than the one made by a Notre Dame coach who is in a Gerry Faust-like death spiral.
Mike Gundy (OK. St.) - Giving up 24 in the 4th Quarter to lose by 3
Steve Spurrier (S.Car.) - Arkansas' offense is all running, everyone knows this. Yet S. Car. somehow gives up 500 yards rushing without a single change to the base defense the whole game! Stunt your d-line, walk up a safety, do something! From number 6 in the country to unranked with losses to Vandy, UT, and Ark.
Bill Callahan (Neb.) - likely to be automatic once he gets canned this week, but 76 points???
I agreee, Callahan will likely be automatic under the Miss St. clause by the end of the week. They're now getting de-commits from recruits so immediate action has to be take. I do love seeing Nebraska give up 76 points though!
Weis and Gundy are the other two that stick out the most to me on a week full of bad coaching. The only problem I'm having is deciding which one is a co-winner and which is just a runner-up!
Hard to argue with that based on the consistency of the screw-ups of Callahan and the Cheeseburgler.
So, did you know that on Saturday Tebow's 14th rush TD on the season not only set an SEC record for most rush TDs by a QB in a season, but it also tied Emmitt Smith's school record for rush TDs in a season? Emmitt's career record is 36 and Tebow already has 22! He has a good shot to become UF's all-time leader in both rush TDs and pass efficiency (which would be an NCAA record as well since Wuerffel is the record holder for that)!
Weis for having the courage to go for it on 4th and 8 with his offensive juggernaut. Too bad, they are actually one of the worst offenses in the country.
I like the Gundy nomination, after all it is about that time of year for the yearly melt down by OSU in the second half against Texas. Been there, done that. I actually think Texas prefers to be down 21 against OSU in the fourth quarter. Mac Brown is thinking, "sweet, right where I want them."
Callahan under "running a top tier team COMPLETELY into the ground." Yes, Weis is in under this nomination as well.
I'll pass on Spurrier, but John makes a good argument. McFadden lines up at QB, no one in the backfield, hmmm ya think he might run it out of there?
Switching subjects, Craig, I need the SEC West (a little easier) and SEC East scenarios for what has to happen for each team to make it to Atlanta. I started thinking about it, and realized you were the one who could come up with those quickly. Plus, I knew you already had the scenario for UF. Thanks.
Hey Gavin, SEC West is obviously LSU's to lose. They have to lose 2 more games for Auburn or Alabama to get in (I'm not even sure they have 2 more conference games).
SEC East -- whew. If everyone wins out the Volunqueers get in via their win over UGA. If Tennessee loses and UGA wins out, they're in.
For Florida, we must beat S. Carolina and have A) UT and UGA lose exactly once each or B) UGA lose both and UT lose at least one of two. UT has Arkansas and UK and UGA has you guys and UK.
Crazy prediction: UGA and UT both lose so UF knows they can win the east by winning at S. Carolina, just like in 2005. The game comes down to a S. Carolina 4th and 1. Tim Tebow goes in at nose tackle, hits the RB in the backfield, forces a fumble, and returns it for 6, locking up the Heisman!
Well, I'm off to the Virgin Islands tomorrow for Kyle & Kelly's wedding this weekend! I'll look forward to seeing some posts when I get back.

I'm sure there are others.
Good recap John.

If I had to vote right now, my ballot would be
Co-Winners: Weis and Callahan
Runner-up: Gundy
I could, however, be talked into a different ballot.

I guess we're going with Weis and Callahan and Gundy as runner-up.
